Mattia, that really sucks. I'm sorry for this curve in the road you've been given.

Heal quick my friend and chin up.

Hang in there Mattia. Sorry to hear of your injury but am thankful it wasn't worse. I'm sure with the schedule for interns you can probably use the rest.

Thanks for all the support guys! I'll be reading here more, and certainly drawing up some proper plans for other instruments, that sort of thing, but it's mostly just very annoying. I was just moving house, too, so there's a lot of diy stuff that isn't getting one either! Now the drains are out the pain's not really worth mentioning (2-4 paracetamol per day, if even that much), so that's good.

Probably won't be replying a whole lot for a while, though, because one-handed typing is horribly, horribly slow :-)

That's total B.S.! I broke a bone in my hand and loosing one apendage is VERY inconvient! But at least I could still dance, so it wasn't too bad!

The loss of muscle strength was surprising! It came back though in time! Hope you can get back to work soon Mattia!

Mattia - best wishes for a speedy recovery. Don't worry about one hand typing we won't give you a hard time over typos.

Glad to hear you aren't having to take a lot of pain killers -- that's a good sign in of itself.

Be well!

I hope you had your helmet on. Here in Hanoi 80% of the registered vehicles are motorbikes (maximum allowed is 150cc). 10% are cars and 10% are trucks.

I see dead people on the road at least twice a month and more often every week. I see accidents almost every day.

Will the plates set off the alarms at the airport?

Get well soon!

Cecil

Always, always have my helmet on; I'm a med student, not on my surgery rotation yet, but we do see folks coming into the ER and all ;-)

Gotta ask about the metal arm plates and security gates...

For those wondering: the cast came off today, staples removed. Break's still pretty nasty (9 days doest produce major changes), but it's stabilized - titanium and 11 screws will do that. I need to slowly start mobilising, flexing, extending, pronating, supinating. Absolutely no strain/axial forces on the arm (no picking things up, no applying pressure), but I'm trying to get into a daily routine of seeing how far I can go. Hand strength's still weak, can't quite flex my thumb normally (thats what happens when one of the surgical wounds runs through/along the flexor muscles). Repeat check in 4 weeks.

Still a little bit of a freaky concept, just under 10 days in a cast with this sort of break. Currently looking around for a physio with some affinity with guitar players, because I'm going to need a lot more supination before I can play anything other than lap guitar. Which I cant do.

Hang in there, Mattia. You'll be fine since you know exactly what's happening inside. Good thing you're not yet a full fledged Doc yet...they're the worst patients!

One good thing for us...we get to have you on the forum more frequently. Welcome home!

Must be tough on the guy that you are Mattia, i feel your pain and frustration although you seem to be living it with good humility and resignation and i hope that your recovery comes quicker because you're used to see a lot more action than what you see now.

If there's a good side to everything, it oughta be the patience that it requires to be out on our own and plan future projects, i'm pretty sure that you had plenty to visualize what you'll do in the future with this and that so hang on bud, it's gonna get better soon!
